Trail update–for now

Winter greeting skiers,
We are still shy on our snow load but we do have quite a few trails open to x-c in Yoho.
Yesterday—Bruce and Joe were able to put the bridge in on the top of the alluvial fan.
Today—with the help of Pierre, Claude, Helen, Bruce and I shovelling snow and water onto the guard rail bridge—Joe was able to PACK a trail ALL around the Fan. Even got the 2 benches out at the far end! It’s skiable —with some ski set track—but will need new snow to be able to track it nicely. At least we can get out there and enjoy this fabulous sunshine.
Other tracks that are packed and track set—though marginal with lots of twigs and some rocks—are the trail from the INFO to the Natural Bridge, and down the Kicking Horse Fire Road to the Otterhead bench.

Of course there is the 1-A at the Lake Ohara turn off which fantastic–double track set and skate too– and taken care of by the Lake Louise track setters–Thank you guys!!!
Joe also plans to work on the Tak Falls road tomorrow–if all goes well !! Keep posted and enjoy what is there. Marilyn

Nov. 15/2017

Emerald is just freezing up!  We won’t get any skating out of this cause the ice is very thin, slushy & snow covered. However– the walking trail is getting packed down really well.  Marilyn

November 2017 update

The boys–Joe & Bruce– are working at getting things ready–unloading the trailer from storage, picking up the sled in Golden after it’s annual tune up and putting in the bridges on the Fan, Connector and Field Flats. I’m working on signs, maps & memberships.
The temperatures are good and cold but not enough snow yet! We’ll let you know when we have enough to start packing and clearing the trails. Find your woolies & your wax! MT

Trail Update and Avalanche

Hans retracted the trails at Emerald Lake yesterday and it was wonderful to ski them again. He tried to do the Connector but could not get the machine across the bridge at the 2 km. point—due to the snow melt. That is the end of that bit of trail grooming for this year on the Connector. We hope to trailer the machine and track Kicking Horse again soon but….???? The slide path got dropped on Sunday! We have up to 30’ of snow & debris blocking the summer walking trail. It did reach out onto the lake ice some 30’ as well. Very impressive to actually watch this avalanche happen and now to observe the debris running down the river of snow!
