In the spirit of safety….and due to the extreme avalanche hazards throughout the Rockies–the Ski Club has been encouraged to create a trail across Emerald Lake on the ice/slush …….from the Boathouse to the Horse trail….this year–the weather has developed extreme slush and water on top of the ice at Emerald lake. Joe has agreed to try to pack the first few passes on the lake.. We will see how it goes???? SKI SAFE …
Trail update–Jan 9th
Yesterday–Joe packed and track set The CONNECTOR TRAIL for the first time! Caution–it is a deep track and only the first pass through with the groomer. –Let’s call it ADVANCED until it gets smoothed out. He also tracked the Tally-Ho and Kicking Horse trail. Lot’s to ski! Enjoy EMERALD TRAILS are still quite good–except for slush on the ice.
OUPS…
Joe is working the Tally Ho all the way down the Kicking Horse Trail right now! Parks Canada will do avalanche control on the Burgess slide path which could runs across the “Connector Trail” –(at about 3 kms. from Emerald Lake). So hopefully we will be able to open that trail soon. Skee ya later!
4 PM…SORRY–HE DID NOT MAKE IT OUT ON THE KH TRAIL YET. THEY DID WORK SOME OF THE CONNECTOR INSTEAD–AND IT IS NOT COMPLETE YET……
EMERALD TRAILS ARE EXCELLENT!
Holy cow!!!
Now that is a BIG SNOW DUMP the last 2 days!! Joe did manage to pack and make a trail at Emerald today! Horse trail, Tree Hugger and Fan are done–but not the most perfect track . Parking is an issue also–and then there’s the Avalanche situation to be very weary of ! Lake is super slushy–stay off it! Not the best report but….Boy–we got the snow!!!!!! Enjoy the weekend. Clear off the benches if you get out there! Do what you can.
Happy last day of 2018
The Tree Hugger Trail at Emerald is READY & so nice to ski in the sun! A bit soft on the pole plants but lovely! These cold temperatures will help freeze up the slush on the lake and Joe groomed a parallel lane for walkers and snowshoers. He also tracked the Alluvial Fan and Horse Trail and they are beautiful. No Connector trail yet ! Thanks to everyone who donated and paid their memberships so far!
Happy, healthy gliding in 2019 !!!
Good news/Bad news
Since the last post–the wind picked up the next morning and wiped out the beautiful tracks on the Alluvial Fan–to everyone’s chagrin. That being the BAD news! Joe was out setting track on the Kicking Horse yesterday–it turned out beautiful! And more GOOD news–he plans to be out at Emerald again today–to repair all the wind damage! And it’s colder and clear out!!! Enjoy your Holiday Season! KHSC
