Yoho Valley Road was track set yesterday and is in great shape.
And the Tree Hugger at Emerald will be the next one to work on… Thanks Joe for all the hard work.
Also, one of our local experts was at Kicking Horse Trail yesterday and she said the trail is in great shape too.
We had a wonderful and sunny Christmas day walking around Emerald Lake to set up all the signs to remind our snowshoeing friends to stay off the ski tracks. Also, to remind them that our furry friends must be on leash on the walking trails and are not allowed on the ski trails (except for Yoho Valley Road). Unfortunately, there was a visitor yesterday who had taken his dog on the Alluvial Fanloop and I had to remind him that this is not allowed.
We saw a few skiers enjoying the Horse Trail and Alluvial Fanloop but the lake is still not safe and is very slushy.
Stay OFF the ICE !!!! I is totally SLUSHY !!!
Start your ski on the walking trail (bathroom area)to access the Horse Trail and the Fan Loop which just got groomed and tracked today– they are in GREAT shape!
Friday & Saturday brought us incredible snow–and some very mild weather also! Field Valley got rain in late afternoon Saturday and the Lake at Emerald got a lot of water coming up over the ice! SLUSHY !! Thank goodness the temperatures are cooler and it is clear now! Should take a while for the lake to freeze up again for the sled and skiers. Please use the walking trail on shore to get to the Horse Trail and Fan. Joe is going out today to check on what he can do. We will have trails for Christmas–surely!
Yesterday–he managed to set a track from the Info to the Natural Bridge and Otter Head turn around. He cut a few trees in the way–and shovelled a big ream of snow that the loader set in front of the trail at the Natural Bridge a few days back. The parking lot was still a mess but likely Parks is working on all that now that the highway is running fine.
Happy Holidays…..Marilyn
Skied Tally -Ho from the natural bridge to Field. The tracks were good and snow covered but still visible. Saw lots of animal tracks. Used VR-40 wax but temperatures were warm enough that I was slipping. Waxless ski’s would have been a better choice.
