I was the first to ski the Connector this year. The track setting, by Joe, was GREAT, and the conditions fabulous.
I started out at the Natural Bridge and skied to Emerald and back.
The temperature was about -7, and the snow was like silk.
Thank you, everyone, for your effort in opening this trail up! It is a lot of work, but so fantastic when it’s good…
Ski you later,
Heather
Connector trail !
Joe groomed and track set from Field Info to All around Emerald yesterday. Bit of a rodeo on the Connector so beware. The ice is getting better on the lake! Kicking Horse is all good as well. He saw a wolf on the flats just past the ball diamond and it ran ahead of him on the track–crossed the highway and off in the bush! Pretty special sighting! Have a good weekend all….we are off to “Wanna be a Woodie?” at Assiniboine Lodge! Skee ya later eh?
It is warm outside!
Yesterday, Monday 27th, we went to Yoho Valley Rd. with our furry friend. The temperature at the trailhead was +2, and even with our waxless skis, the snow was sticky, and we don’t have too much glide. Still, we have a fun few hours, and we had the trail all to ourselves.
Joe and Flint did a fantastic job only a few days ago track setting the road, but unfortunately, a few ski touring friends forgot that the track is to fat skis.
Paulina.
ATTENTION !!
The first section of the Tree Hugger Trail–from the Boathouse to the uphill of the Horse Trail is NOW CLOSED– due to avalanche danger!
Do NOT ski beneath the open slide path area. Joe will be out there today to attempt putting a trail on the ice parallel to the lodge bridge–which then heads to the uphill on the Horse Trail and the remainder of the Tree Hugger Trail. Volunteers are going ahead of him to snow shoe the ice section and check for slush pockets. It’s been very mild this month. Hopefully we can make it work! Depending on the conditions–he may not be able to get the heavy track setter across the ice–so the trails will remain a bit washed out as they are now.
There is good skiing from Field all the way down the Kicking Horse Fire Road or start at the Natural Bridge to go down. Marilyn
Kicking Horse Trail on Saturday 25th!!
Joe and Flint track-set Kicking Horse Trail yesterday, and is in great shape to enjoy.
Saturday was a beautiful day in Yoho, and locals and visitors take advantage of our amazing trails all day.
It is warm outside for a typical January, be wise in your wax choice.
Happy trails, Paulina
Yoho valley Road
Joe’s on it today(Thursday)–grooming and laying a track. Take advantage of it!
Him and Flint worked on the Connector on Wednesday and did punch through end to end –with the sled only — it was a tough go….many trees and lots of work. It is still NOT ready, not great and NOT tracked! Passable but beware!!!! Snowshoeing it before it gets tracked would help some more.
