Emerald Lake…

Hipi Santa worked many hours today at Emerald on this cold Christmas Day…..  catching many curb balls—dead relay switch, quick trip to Golden,  frozen trailer, removing fallen trees, packing and packing,  digging out the frozen to the ground groomer so he could widen the trails. And now Santa’s bag is empty  and time to quit and go enjoy his evening with family at home

.We went out on skees to put some sign up for the snowshoers to follow.  Heather and Dave helped put some up also—on the Horse Trail and back of the lake.  Lots more to go up….soon. Santa Hipi did NOT set a track cause his bag was empty.  Possibly tomorrow… but it will be a bit of a zoo there with people, skiers, cars…..if you can even park your car!   Skiers & dogs  & walkers & snowshoers pretty well all over the lake…..please be careful—there is still some slush spots even with the cold weather.  Your best bet is still the Tally-Ho from the Info Hall(nice ice rink got cleared off there in the last few days!) and the Kicking Horse Fire Road or the Tak Falls Road.     HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE….Skee ya later eh….KHSC.CA

Bruce on the Horse Trail after the sled grooming.

Update–Dec. 24/2020

The sled had a minor problem after the last grooming on the Kicking Horse. The main relay switch blew out and lucky for us–Golden had one left in stock! Joe is picking it up today and….will likely track Emerald on Christmas Day. Lovely present for all skiers. We have had no more major snow dumps so the tracks remain as so…..

The Fan is snowshoe packed only–good ski set
The Tree Hugger is ski set pretty good, soft pole plants
The Horse trail is sled packed once and ski set with one tree down
Lake is slushy in spots—some tracks—getting colder out.
Best — Kicking Horse from Field Info to Otterhead River. Connector is alway the last —it needs the most help and lot’s more snow.
But things are coming along…..so is Christmas!    Happy holidays.

“HIPI HELPERS” (Volunteers) are THE BEST !!

We want to acknowledge the volunteer backbone behind JOE NEXIPI on his trusty “SkiDoo” steed!

Lorraine heads the Field team, recruiting the strong & hearty…

Heather, Ginette, Kathy & Rob on snowshoes or fat boards with skins.

Pierre, Richard, Loyd, Jim, John— setting up the steel bridges.

Jessica Stewart, Helen, Paulina—more snowshoers.

and then the certified hired help—tree fallers— Michael and David— so eager to help.

All put in their fair time, hard work—and their love in for this little Ski Club.

Thank you—this is YOUR SKI CLUB…..you make it!  These fine folks do not need to pay  a memberships—they only need an honest Thank You!      I’m saying it and when you meet them skiing—Say it also!

We are all so proud to live in Yoho Park and do our part.  We have such wonderful snow, mountains, landscape & friends to share.

If you want to offer up a day of help—drop us a line…..We still need to get signs out, put up the benches,  keep them shovelled/swept  & lift them regularly, reset the signs, fill in hazardous tree wells or sitzmarks, report fallen trees, conditions. Report nice conditions….

All in a days work….and we love it.

It’s the Holiday Season-wishing everyone a healthy, joyful, safe x-c ski.

Marilyn & Bruce & Denise —The Elders’.      Skee’ ya later’ eh …

 THANK YOU  “Hipi Helpers”!!
