Good—no— GREAT News !!!  Just talked to Joe and with these cold nights & snow we had—he wants to track set the Kicking Horse one more time—Monday morning around 9 am !!!! Then he will put away the equipment for good. We were on the KH yesterday and it was wonderful though wonky on the ankles and it was like skiing on lovely whipped cream!!!! And TRACK SET—should be super sweet. He is doing this for all the local skiers to have one good last ski !!!! Sun should come out…also. Help spread the word to all your skier friends……and we’ll SKEE YOU LATER EH! Even found some pussy willows! MT BB

April 2021

From Lorraine–yesterday. “I brought my old fishscale ski’s to Emerald Lake.  Skied to the back of the lake and in the alluvial fan –but on the supportive crust.  Track is icy and uneven so off trail is much better.  Quite busy at the lake but I was the only skier.  Everyone else was walking.”

Great skiing at Emerald Lake on a supportive crust.  This was my favourite photo of the day.  A time of reflection past & present.

Friday, March 26

Skied the Kicking Horse around noon–after we got a few inches of fresh snow overnight and Joe tried to scratch a new track in a few days ago. It was quite perfect–considering late March! Snow off track was isothermal but the track itself is well packed and good. Joe moved the track setter to the Natural Bridge so he won’t be doing the section from Field–on the Tally Ho anymore. He plans to trailer the sled if he needs it –for the Kicking Horse or Emerald. Trails at Emerald are still skiable–good ski set track on the lake, good crust off track(and it will get better with more sun). The bridge at the top of the fan is melting out and quite bumpy–good to walk across and be safe. Fan trail is fine. Horse trail is in the shade and needs new snow or is too icy & fast. Tree hugger is a bit of a spring mess. Thats the scoop. Skee ya later…….

Thank you!

Big thank you to Anna and Nathalie for coming to the club lesson last Friday. We had an awesome session, on great conditions and sunshine! We talked about Diagonal stride, double poling and one step double poling. Great work ladies, I noticed you were skikng more efficiently within the lesson, yay!

Happy to trails to everyone, Jessica 😊

Crust skein’ is GREAT!

Get out there early–it’s worth it! Most of the crust on Emerald is supportive for classic for sure…..for skating you should come earlier! This should keep up all week with the weather reports. It’s warm and sunny by 9am and done by noon. Tracks are icy & can be dangerous but crust is forgiving. go where no man(or woman) has gone before in winter!! It’s so special. Likely along the Kicking Horse River is great too–though the hill down can be very scary!! Enjoy spring skiing and sunshine.
