Dec. 17 Friday

Today Joe and Logan worked more trees on KHFR and they are not done yet!!!!! It will take another day–maybe 2. The trail has a beautiful single track for 5 kms. Dress warm!

Work has been accomplished on restoring our website …..Members are now added to this years list. 13 so far(4 from last years payments). The “Trail of Skees” is also up and running. You can use the “Contact us” link to send us an email and you can also get auto updates from our website by adding your email address to the box on the bottom of any page. Updates only come to your mailbox after 11 am cause the headquarters for WordPress is out of New York—-I think. Often too late to be the first on the trail– just the way it is.

The information page on the WINTER RENTALS at “The Boathouse” is still correct. They will be closed again this winter. Sorryyyyyy

Thursday Dec 16th

The boys will be working again today on the Kicking Horse Trail–near the end to the Otterhead River. Hoping this trail will be completed today and refreshed with the track setter. Thank you for your patience everyone. Still nothing at Emerald–but that’s next. Skee ya later eh?

Wed. Dec 15th

Bruce and I brought the sled into Golden yesterday and she’s ready to go again! I believe Joe will finish cutting trees on the Kicking Horse today and set a track. For now–it is skiable without a track. Next up is Emerald Lake with the bridge on the Fan and packing everything down. We need “volunteer” snowshoers on the Tree Hugger trail & maybe the steep hill going up to the Horse Trail— If you’re looking for an outdoor workout. Bring poles for balance.

Monday Dec 13

Joe made it to the Amiskiwi River Bridge yesterday with the help from Pierre and Wendy–members, locals, passionate skiers. He got that 2 kms of wide trail packed and groomed with corduroy ONLY. The track setter is headed to the shop in Golden on Tuesday ! Sorryyyyyyy. NO track but you can ski it all the same. Lot’s more work to do to finish that trail to the end at the Otterhead River! Skee ya later eh?

Still working on our website which got hacked…..at least you are able to receive post if you go on to KHSC.CA directly. What else can happen???

What’s up? for Dec 9-10-11th ?

2 days of power outage in Field and Golden, our website got hacked and now a bit of lovely fresh snow!

Joe has been cutting trees on the Kicking Horse Fire Road at the Natural Bridge for 2 solid days.  So many trees came down with the last huge snowfall and then the rain was too much for them.  He’s got a lot of work to do.  The crust does not quite support him when he’s cutting and certainly not when he’s moving the chunks of icy frozen trees off the trail.  It’s a lot of work.  He hopes to make it to the Amiskiwi bridge today and will likely put a track down on the way back up—if all goes well we could possibly have 2 kms. of trail !!  Not really worth coming out here from a great distance when Lake Louise has lots of tracks but Field local may want to check it out and if any local volunteers can ski down to help remove debris—that would be fantastic. Wear gaiters, and bring work gloves. We’ll let you know when things progress……

Meanwhile….sign up for auto updates at the bottom of every page on khsc.ca

We will hear from CRMR about lodge discounts next week.

     Skee ya later…..MT BB

Welcome to winter 2021-2022

Eh Skiers..

We’re in Victoria for most of this month & will try to keep up with the winter scene in YOHO.

First off – we want to say…..

Thank you ! ….

To Chris Allen Media— our web Master since the start in 2011 !

Nick Is now our new temporary web host for KHSC.  We will need to recruit a long time person for next year onward.  Know anyone….?

Thank you ! ….

Helen Read & girl friends —for flagging  The Emerald River Snowshoe Trail  this early spring. It will be way easier to find it now—in winters deep snow!

Thank you ! ….

To last winters snowshoe Volunteers: Lorraine, Paulina, Helen, Ginette, Heather/Dave, Pierre/Wendy, and Kathy & Rob Taerum who got the GPS  coordinates for us for Nordic Pulse?

Thank you ! ….

Parks Canada Trail Crew for 2 newer picnic tables — one at Amiskiwi River & one down along the Kicking Horse River—& for clearing of trees & widening the Amiskiwi River bridge wash out.

Thank you ! ….

Go Volunteers with  Ron Allen of Skiing Louise—for pruning our trails.  They worked on the Horse Trail & the very upper section of the Connector.

Thank you….

Michael & David for the chainsaw work on the Connector this past October.

Thank you,….

To Joe—our groomer/track setter/bridge builder.  He’s the icing on the cake!

New this year—We have a Highway Crosswalk @ our NEW Streetlight into Field!

And—No more Tracksetting leaving the Info Center and definitely NO more tracksetting crossing the highway where we have before !!  Joe will not be allowed to cross with the machine.  He will only stage out of the Natural Bridge, Emerald Lake & Takakkaw Falls Road.   Joe will track set over the old Tally Ho from the Natural Bridge—down to the where you see the highway but Parks will  not allow us to cross the trans-Canada highway!!!

The snow is coming, Joe’s working on bridges & it will all happen soon enough!

We will let you know when the tracks are ready.

Skee ya later. Marilyn, Bruce & Denise
