January 6–Sunday

NEWS…our sled broke down again….yesterday …at the back of Emerald Lake this time!  Joe and a buddy will try to tow it back to the parking lot it this morning(hopefully).  We will trailer it into Golden again and see what they can do.       Meanwhile….the Yoho Challenge is coming up on Feb. 13 and we just need you to be aware that the Connector trail is NOT YET packed or groomed by machine!  It still needs some tree cutting also.      Please be patient as we try to connect all our trails….it has been a very challenging winter season and we hope the “Yoho Challenge” will be a “SKEE”  Celebration for everyone!  We will keep you informed.     And the Kicking Horse Trail  and Tally Ho are in fine shape.  Great weather also.

Friday Feb 4

Kicking Horse Fire Road got groomed and track set today and it was heavenly. So has the Tally Ho up to the highway. Joe plans to do Emerald Tomorrow ! and next on the agenda is of course–the Connector. Skee ya later…….MT BB

Feb. 2/2022 Good news for all….

The Field Kicking Horse Ski Club would like to say “THANK YOU” to  Parks Canada for their offer to continue on with the x-c trails that Kicking Horse Ski Club have done for over 30 years in Yoho– starting  next winter(2022-2023).       Jen Coffman, Denise, Bruce and Marlaine had a phone meeting with visitor experience manager Jed Cochrane and Julie Champagne on Monday morning.  Jed disclosed the good news that “Parks will be carrying on the work that KHSC has done”.  The Club is very please with the outcome of the phone conversation.  Everyone we spoke to is so happy that the ski trail will continue on– and with Parks.      Go ahead and give your thanks to Parks….  And to Joe when you see him on the sled.     And on Jen’s behalf –to all those that participated in an efforts to keep the trails going, their letters were testament to how important winter activities are in Yoho.  Thank you.        Looking forward to skiing more and seeing you on these beautiful trail.   Marlaine & Bruce & Denise

Monday January 24 th

Tally Ho is cleared of all trees, groomed and track set !!! Park your car at the Natural Bridge, cross the Emerald Lake Road and walk up the uphill. (same trail for the Re-connector–soon) Groomed track starts there. Get your workout going up and down that beautiful trail. There is a button hole turn around at the One Mile Pond at the highway–to return back to your car or go further down the KHFR. Avoid crossing the highway at all costs…..there is not track set trail on the INFO side.

What an incredible ski day today was at Emerald with all that sunshine !!!! The slush at Emerald is starting to freeze up. Maybe soon we will be able to use the ICE trail Joe put in to get you to the Horse Trail. Use caution and find the best route. Slush tends to stay slush in the fresh powder due to insulation. Stay on preset trails. Skee ya later
